① Data availability means that all transaction data for a block has actually been published, so anyone who wants to verify it can download it.
② Data availability sampling (DAS) lets nodes randomly download a small portion of a block’s data. If multiple samples are successful, they can confirm with a very high degree of confidence that the full data has been published.
③ When comparing Layer 2 solutions, check where transaction data is stored: on Ethereum, on a separate data availability network, or with an off-chain committee. Each has different security assumptions.
