My first reaction to this news was: Russia is moving toward compliance faster than expected.

The Moscow Exchange confirmed that spot trading in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT will launch on December 1.
Not futures, not an index—actual spot trading, where you can place buy and sell orders.
Trading hours will follow the stock market schedule, from 7 a.m. to midnight Moscow time.
Custody won’t be handled by the exchange itself; it will be entrusted to a partner digital custodian.

Retail investors can buy up to 300,000 rubles per year through each intermediary, while qualified investors face no limit.
The backdrop is Federal Law 282-FZ, which took effect in Russia on September 1. For the first time, crypto is officially circulating through regulated intermediaries.
But let’s be clear about the limits: crypto still cannot be used as a means of payment within the country.

What’s interesting here isn’t the limit—300,000 rubles isn’t a large amount.
It’s that a traditional exchange has brought spot trading into the formal system, effectively creating an official gateway.
In September, it had already listed perpetual futures for BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, and TRX. This time, spot trading is being added.

The compliant gateway is open. Whether funds will follow is what we’ll be watching in December.
What do you think—is a traditional exchange entering the market bullish, or is it just symbolic?
