A publicly listed company in Tokyo is really selling all its Bitcoin to chase AI.

This isn't just talk—they're acting on the books. Iole says it will sell off all 151.21 coins of $BTC in its reserves by the end of November. By their estimates, that should bring in about 1.831 billion yen, compared with a book value of 2.085 billion yen, meaning they'll recognize a loss of roughly 254 million yen. What will they do with the money? AI data centers, computing power, and Neo Cloud. The related budget is going up from about 2 billion to around 2.6 billion yen.

The company's reasoning is pretty straightforward: it's more concerned about the risk of cyberattacks, doesn't want to be a “crypto-hoarding company” anymore, and wants to shift toward business growth. Interestingly, it's still holding on to $HYPE .

I came across this news just as $BTC was hovering around 77,600. On X, people were still arguing the other day about whether AI or Bitcoin is the better bet to hold for ten years. Meanwhile, Tokyo has voted with its balance sheet—sell coins, buy computing power.

Can't say whether this is the right move for them. But as an observer, it's a bit of a gut punch: companies used to hoard coins as a narrative; now some are turning that narrative into cash flow to fuel AI.

If you were managing a company's money, would you follow Iole's lead and swap BTC for AI capacity, or keep holding Bitcoin as a reserve? Share your thoughts in the comments. I'll take a look at where everyone stands.
