🧠 BLOCKCHAIN IS SUPPOSED TO BE DECENTRALIZED, SO WHY CAN ASSETS BE FROZEN?

Recent events on Arbitrum have sparked an interesting discussion about the principles of decentralization.

Many people believe that assets on the blockchain cannot be stopped or frozen.

However, the reality is not that simple.

🔍 How can this happen?

In the Arbitrum case, the Security Council used its emergency powers to move assets from an address identified as being linked to the Binance incident to a designated frozen address.

Any subsequent movement can only be made through a governance decision by the Arbitrum DAO.

⚖️ This is where the dilemma arises:

• Security requires the ability to respond to threats quickly.

• Decentralization requires limits on power and transparency.

• Users need assurance that their assets cannot be frozen arbitrarily.

💡 Conclusion:

Decentralization does not mean there is no governance.

The more important questions are who has the authority, how that authority is exercised, and who oversees it.

💬 What do you think—should blockchains have emergency mechanisms to freeze assets?
