Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, suffered a security breach whose financial impact was estimated at around $6.3 billion. The incident caused turmoil in the digital asset market and renewed concerns about exchanges’ ability to protect users’ funds.
While the company announced that it had frozen a large portion of the affected assets and pledged to cover the losses, preliminary investigations suggest the attack may have been linked to the hacking of one of its engineers’ computers. A North Korean hacking group has been accused of carrying out the operation.
