No time for rivalry: Polygon and Solana have become friends 🤝

Imagine you want to pay a supplier in another country. Usually, that means intermediary banks, fees, and waiting several days. Crypto promises faster, cheaper payments, but there’s usually an entire obstacle course between your bank account and a wallet holding digital dollars (stablecoins): one service to add funds, another for wallets, and yet another to cash out.

Polygon decided to put it all in one button. Its Open Money Stack product works like a “money toolkit”: businesses integrate once and get the whole package.

Solana has now been added to this lineup. What does this mean for businesses:

💳 Top up your balance by bank transfer, card, cash, or crypto.

👛 Create wallets for customers right inside your app.

🔀 Move money between networks. Stablecoins can be moved between Solana, Polygon, Ethereum, and TRON.

🏦 Send payouts to a bank account, card, or cash pickup location.

All of this runs through a single API—in other words, one integration point.

What this looks like in practice. Kira, one of the first companies to try the new feature, uses Solana for stablecoin transfers, while Polygon’s banking connections help its customers pay overseas suppliers in dollars.

Why this is interesting. Polygon and Solana were long considered rivals. The day before the announcement, Polygon even posted a joke screenshot on X, pretending they had “blocked” Solana, with the caption “just don’t make anything weird out of this.” The next day, it announced that it was now working with Solana. First they pretended to be feuding, then they announced a partnership.

The reason is simple: Solana has huge transaction volumes. According to the Solana Foundation, more than $5 trillion in stablecoins has moved through the network this year. It’s easier to connect to where customers’ money already is than to compete with them.

What’s next. Polygon says Solana isn’t the last network on its list, and the company plans to add more blockchains.

What we don’t know yet. Polygon hasn’t disclosed its Solana transaction volumes, customer numbers, or pricing.
