Taking advantage of the rebound, neighboring South Korea has stepped in to prop up the market. This time, the firefighter-in-chief is Hynix.

They just announced their latest financial results, which far exceeded expectations: third-quarter revenue of 104.62 trillion won and profit of 83.33 trillion won—equivalent to more than 410 billion yuan.

A real money-printing machine.

Strong results, and they haven’t skimped on rewarding shareholders either. They announced that this year they’ll return 100 trillion won to shareholders, including more than 30 trillion won in cash dividends. The rest will be used to buy back shares, which will all be canceled.

The canceled shares are worth roughly 300 billion yuan. For comparison, the entire A-share market bought back just over 130 billion yuan worth of shares last year. Most weren’t canceled; they were kept to reward employees or the boss—purely a way to trade on market fluctuations.
