An attacker stole $6.36 billion from Binance after spending at least 36 hours preparing the operation. The first transfers removed approximately 233.46 million XRP, worth $296 million, from five Binance wallets. TRM Labs found that most funds departed Binance-linked wallets in approximately 20 minutes, making the hack the largest cryptocurrency theft recorded. Further wallet sweeps continued for hours across multiple networks. Investigators have not established how the attacker obtained the authorizations needed for the attack.
