Tether froze 971 million USDT, while Circle blocked 823 million USDC. They are linked to the Binance hack. If so, well over half of the stolen funds are already accounted for.
Binance has yet to comment on the possible hack, but Changpeng Zhao has already weighed in:
"Users' funds are safe!
It appears Binance was hacked. I’m grateful to Tether (around $971 million) and Circle (around $823 million) for quickly freezing the funds.
I no longer run Binance (.com), but as a shareholder, I expect all users' funds to be fully returned."
