After 30 years abroad, the stone-carved heads from the Song Dynasty mausoleums have finally come home.
According to Sina’s Social News, China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration received two cultural relics returned by Australia at the National Gallery of Australia.
Both stone-carved heads were stolen from the Song Dynasty mausoleums in Gongyi, Henan Province, in the 1990s, and smuggled out of the country.
Back then, the thieves brutally destroyed and sold off stone carvings that stood watch over the wheat fields. Just awful. Thankfully, China is now strong, and thanks to consultations and cooperation between China and Australia, these precious relics—lost overseas for 30 years—have finally set foot on their homeland again.
