Starting October 28, Coinbase made Ripple’s stablecoin RLUSD available to both retail and institutional customers.
Launched in December 2024, RLUSD is a US dollar-backed stablecoin with a market cap of over $2.5 billion. It focuses on near-instant settlement, and this listing makes it available to retail and institutional users at the same time.
My take is that a major exchange opening RLUSD to both retail and institutional customers shows that competition among stablecoins is no longer just about issuance volume—it’s also about who can secure access to regulated major exchanges first.
Do you think this listing will help RLUSD take market share from USDT and USDC, or will it simply add another backup option?
Follow me, and I’ll be the first to bring you news of the next stablecoin to list on a major exchange.
