Why can the same contract code be deployed directly to several different chains?
EVM is a stack-based virtual machine. Each data unit (word) is 256 bits, and the maximum stack depth is 1024.
Before interacting with a contract, check its source code on a block explorer to see whether it has been verified. Be extra cautious with contracts whose source code hasn't been made public.
When you call a contract on Ethereum, the EVM charges Gas for every instruction it executes, paid using $ETH .
