After staring at the markets until my eyes went blurry, I came across news that Google previewed a secure crypto custody system for banks at a digital assets symposium in New York today.

It’s called Google Multi-Party Compute—the MPC approach: private keys are split into several pieces and stored across different environments, so even if one machine gets compromised, no one can walk away with the whole key. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, is already using it to manage assets on ETH and SOL, and several major institutions are testing it too.

It won’t be commercially available to the public until early 2027. As an old crypto hand, my one takeaway was: the big tech companies are finally turning “don’t keep all your keys in one place” into a product 😂

Let’s see if banks actually adopt it. I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
