$XAN Over the past 24 hours, the contract has risen about 56%, with roughly $89 million in trading volume. Intraday, it climbed from 0.0076 to a high of 0.0131. The noon hourly candle surged from 0.0101 to 0.0126, with about $14.8 million in volume in that hour; at 15:00 it touched 0.0131 again, and at 16:00 it was still hovering around 0.012. A rally this strong is easiest to read as retail traders piling into longs and sentiment getting overheated.

Positioning tells a completely different story. Open interest was still around 160 million coins last night, but by 16:00 it had piled up to 362 million—more than double. Real-time open interest near the current price was still around 372 million. Over the same stretch, the share of retail accounts holding longs fell steadily from about 73% to 60%, while large traders' long positions stayed almost flat at 56%. As the price surged, most of the new positions piling in were shorts fading the breakout, not retail traders piling one-sidedly into longs. The funding rate makes it even clearer: it was still near zero at noon, but by the 16:00 interval it had plunged to -0.16%, meaning shorts are paying to hold out against this rally.

The mechanics are simple: whoever adds shorts during the rally is the first to get squeezed on a pullback. With open interest still making new highs and funding deeply negative, a rebound is more likely to become fuel for short covering than a signal that the trend is over.

Technically, the 1-hour RSI is around 67, and the KDJ J-line is around 78. Price has pierced the Keltner upper band at 0.0118 and also touched the Bollinger upper band near 0.0128. EMA12 is at 0.0108, EMA50 at 0.0091, and ATR is about 7.8%. The structure is still holding above the 12-period moving average, but volatility has expanded around the spike high of 0.0131; this is not a quiet consolidation. The invalidation point is also clear: if price falls below 0.0101 while open interest keeps building above 380 million coins, that would mean the shorts have successfully faded the breakout, and volatility would only increase.

I won't add to my position into this spike around 0.013. Until open interest falls back below 300 million coins and funding recovers from deeply negative levels to near zero, I'll first watch the 12-period moving average at 0.0108 on a pullback. If it holds, the move is still fuel for a short squeeze; if it breaks, the next level to watch is the Keltner midline at 0.0101. I have no position in XAN here.
