BNB Chain is preparing a brand-new, high-performance blockchain. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) described the future direction as “multiple chains, one coin.”
According to the latest technical documents published by BNB Chain, the next-generation Layer 1 (“New L1”) will operate alongside the existing BNB Smart Chain (BSC). It will not issue a separate token, but will continue to use BNB to pay transaction fees, participate in staking, and take part in on-chain governance. The development team plans to launch a testnet by the end of 2026, with a mainnet launch targeted for early 2027.
The new L1 won’t replace BSC; CZ sets the direction with “multi-chain, one coin”
Official documents updated by BNB Chain on October 22 describe the new L1 as a high-performance blockchain compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), designed for low-latency on-chain transactions, financial applications, and other high-frequency operations.
Rather than directly upgrading or replacing BSC, the new chain will operate as an independent network and is planned to connect to BSC through a native cross-chain bridge. BNB will remain the core asset, and the development team currently has no plans to issue a separate new token.
This is also the key meaning behind CZ’s “multi-chain, one coin” vision: BNB’s uses could extend to more networks in the future, without creating a separate native token economy for each new chain. However, even if the new chain uses the same BNB, that does not mean liquidity, validators, or security across different chains will automatically be unified. Cross-chain asset transfers still involve bridge mechanisms and smart contract risks.
200 ms block times and 20 ms pre-confirmations target high-frequency on-chain transactions
According to BNB Chain’s technical documents, the new L1 plans to reduce block intervals to 200 milliseconds and provide transaction pre-confirmations in around 20 milliseconds. Its design separates transaction ordering from execution to improve its capacity to handle high-frequency trading.
Its main technical directions include native account abstraction, a Multi-Lane mechanism that reserves network capacity for specific transactions, and an optional privacy transaction pool.

It is especially important to note that a transaction pre-confirmation does not mean the transaction is finalized. The development documents explicitly state that a pre-confirmation is only an advance signal from validators that a transaction will be included, and it may be revoked. Applications involving asset transfers and settlement should still wait for formal confirmation.
BNB is trading at around $736. Could the new chain plan drive demand?
BNB Chain’s decision not to issue a new token means that if the new L1 successfully attracts more users and transaction activity, demand for related network fees and staking could still be concentrated in BNB. However, this does not mean that BNB’s price is bound to rise. The actual impact will depend on transaction volume on the new chain, its gas fee system, staking participation, and how cross-chain funds are used.
According to a CoinGecko snapshot queried on October 26, BNB was trading at around $736.25, down 1.1% over 24 hours and up about 1.1% over the past seven days, with a circulating market cap of approximately $96.82 billion.
The existing BSC ecosystem is already substantial. Data from DeFiLlama for the same day showed that BSC had approximately $5.79 billion in total value locked (TVL) in decentralized finance, a stablecoin market cap of around $13.1 billion, and 24-hour decentralized exchange trading volume of about $660 million.
The business challenge for the new L1 will be whether it can generate genuinely additional demand for applications and transactions, rather than simply shifting activity that would otherwise take place on BSC to another chain.
Mainnet launch planned for early 2027 as BNB Chain moves toward a multi-chain architecture
In its technical roadmap published in July this year, BNB Chain had already previewed plans to develop a next-generation L1. Its long-term goals include higher throughput, low-latency settlement, and support for stablecoins, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, and AI applications.
According to the latest documents, the new chain is still in the internal development network stage, with no public testnet, official RPC nodes, or block explorer available yet. The native cross-chain bridge is also still in development. A testnet is expected by the end of this year, with the mainnet planned for early 2027, though the specific timeline may change.
The plan shows that BNB Chain is seeking to serve different applications with multiple blockchains designed for different performance needs, while keeping BNB as their shared core asset.
For BNB holders, what really matters is not the addition of another chain, but whether the new chain can create additional demand for BNB without undermining the efficiency of the broader ecosystem through fragmented liquidity and cross-chain costs.
