Binance just updated a very important detail: the stock “Corporate Actions” filter now includes “Return of Capital” as a separate category from “Cash Dividend.” Why does this matter? The return-of-capital portion of CHPY’s distributions is a return of your principal, not income. Under the rules, it shouldn’t count as a taxable dividend, so the corresponding portion of the 30% withholding tax deducted at the time should theoretically be refunded. Binance didn’t even have a category for it before, so the tax-refund mechanism was still an unknown. Now that the category is there, there’s a concrete basis for putting the refund process into action. The first and second quarters of next year will be the window to see if it works. It only counts once the money actually arrives—until then, make a note of it and keep an eye on it.
