$RLUSD has received a Moody’s rating. At around 9 a.m. Beijing time on October 28, Ripple stablecoin lead Jack McDonald posted that Moody’s had assigned it a long-term A2 rating, while its short-term rating was the highest available under Moody’s new stablecoin framework.
RLUSD is Ripple’s own U.S. dollar stablecoin, designed primarily for payments and settlement between institutions.
Ripple says it is the first stablecoin to receive an investment-grade rating from Moody’s. Moody’s assessment considers not only the credit quality and liquidity of its reserve assets, but also redemption arrangements, custody relationships, regulatory oversight, and internal controls.
The significance is that traditional finance has long used Moody’s ratings to assess credit risk, and now the same standards are being applied directly to stablecoins. Ripple also received final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency this week for Ripple National Trust Bank, bringing RLUSD a step closer to meeting standards that banks understand.
