The funniest part is that a poll funded by a DeFi lobbying group ended up proving itself wrong.

A nationwide U.S. survey conducted by the DeFi Education Fund and Ipsos found that 35% of people support candidates who promote “next-generation financial technology.” But when the question explicitly mentioned blockchain, crypto, and DeFi, support dropped to 13%.

In other words: Americans don’t hate what this stuff can do; they hate the “crypto” brand. And who gave that brand a bad name? Rug pulls, shill accounts, platforms that blew up in one crash after another, and a whole bunch of KOLs paid by projects to write about “institutional adoption.” They know who they are.

Even more telling: the share of people who own or have used crypto has reached 22%, up from 18% last year. But only 9% are highly familiar with decentralized platforms, and just 5% have a high level of trust in them. More people are using it, but trust hasn’t caught up. Most people are just coming in to make a quick trade.

So stop waving around “22% of Americans own crypto” as proof of mass adoption. What this report is really saying is: mention crypto less when lobbying, and talk more about financial technology. The industry has to hide its own name, yet it keeps shouting about going mainstream?
