A whale deposits $200M to dump, $2.7B in funds has fled—why is $BTC stubbornly holding at $80K?
A whale just deposited $200 million worth of BTC into Coinbase, and $2.7 billion has flowed out of the market over the past 15 days. Seeing that, many people instinctively opened short positions. But looking at the market around $80K, I think this is where shorts are more likely to get into trouble.
Money is indeed flowing out, but ETFs saw net inflows of $110 million yesterday, with some buyers quietly stepping in. More importantly, the long-short ratio is only 26% right now, with shorts piling up a hefty $2.77 billion. And between $80,500 and $81,200, there’s a dense cluster of short liquidation orders.
This looks more like an attempt to apply maximum pressure: use news of a whale depositing coins to scare the bulls, wait for shorts to pile in, then push the price up and trigger their stop-losses.
Long: Wait for a high-volume breakout above 81233 and confirmation that price holds there, then go long as the short squeeze kicks in.
Short: Wait for a high-volume break below the previous low of 79178, followed by a weak rebound. Enter only once a genuine sell-off is confirmed.
If your short position is just above $81K, will you be able to sleep tonight?
