Data as of October 26, 2026. Figures vary depending on the source and when it was last updated.

Ondo Finance ($ONDO ) issues tokens that provide economic exposure to U.S. Treasury securities, stocks, and ETFs. It is one of the more prominent projects in the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization sector.

The core tension: Ondo’s products are operational and attract capital, but the ONDO token does not automatically grant holders the right to income from those products. The business and the token are less closely linked than the headlines might suggest.

An article for those exploring the RWA sector who want to understand exactly what holding ONDO offers.

Market snapshot:

  • Price: ~$0.404–0.413

  • Market capitalization: ~$1.96–2.01 billion

  • FDV: ~$4.04–4.13 billion

  • In circulation: ~4.869 billion ONDO (≈48.7%) of the 10 billion maximum supply

  • 24-hour volume: $60–100 million (≈3–5% of market capitalization)

  • ATH: ~$2.14 (December 2024), currently down approximately 81%

  • ATL: ~$0.0822 (January 2024)

Technology

Ondo does not have its own blockchain and therefore has no consensus mechanism of its own. The project operates on existing networks as a tokenization platform.

Key products:

  • USDY — a yield-bearing token backed by short-term U.S. Treasury securities and bank deposits. It is not a conventional stablecoin. Access is subject to jurisdictional restrictions, including exclusion of users from the United States.

  • OUSG — exposure to short-term Treasuries for accredited investors and qualified purchasers.

  • Ondo Stocks — tokenized exposure to stocks and ETFs.

What this means in practice. A token represents the economic value of an asset. It is not always the asset itself and does not always grant rights to the underlying securities. Access depends on jurisdiction and investor status.

In this system, ONDO serves as the governance token for Ondo DAO and Flux Finance: it is used for votes and proposals. You do not need to hold ONDO to access USDY, OUSG, or Ondo Stocks.

Tokenomics

Maximum supply: 10 billion ONDO.

Initial allocation (according to trackers):

  • Ecosystem Growth: 52.1%

  • Protocol Development / Foundation: 33.0%

  • Private Investors: 12.9%

  • Community Access Sale: 2.0%

Important caveat: 85.1% in the first two categories does not mean the tokens belong to the team and early investors. This is an allocation by purpose, not by ultimate owner.

Vesting:

  • Next major unlock: January 2027, approximately 1.71 billion ONDO (≈17.1% of the maximum supply)

  • Further major milestones: January 2028 and January 2029

  • The schedule ends around January 2029

An alternative breakdown cites 1.94 billion. The discrepancy is due to different versions of the schedule calculation. This article uses 1.71 billion, the figure shown by current trackers.

Inflation: The documentation states that no inflation is planned. This is not the same as saying that “changes to the supply are impossible.”

Burns: The documents reviewed do not describe a regular burn mechanism, so there is no burn schedule. Unlocks increase the available supply but do not create issuance beyond the 10 billion cap.

Investors

12.9% was allocated to Private Investors, and another 2.0% went to the Community Access Sale. The names of funds, funding rounds, and entry prices were not included in the verified data. We do not publish unverified figures; this section can be updated if confirmed data becomes available.

On-chain activity

  • Third-party summaries cite around $4 billion in Ondo tokenized assets.

  • USDY is reported at $2.3–2.35 billion.

  • At the time of review, the official website showed TVL of around $1.34 billion.

  • Aggregators report their own TVL figures.

These are different metrics. Tokenized assets, TVL, and AUM are not interchangeable. The discrepancy does not make the $4 billion figure incorrect; it most likely covers a broader range of products. Consistent sources and definitions are needed for publication and comparisons.

We have not compared competitors using a comparable methodology and a single date, so we make no ranking claims.

The inside story

Facts:

  • A no-action request to the SEC dated April 13, 2026, has been published. It concerns using a public blockchain to record rights to tokenized securities while keeping the broker’s official records off-chain.

  • Products are subject to restrictions based on jurisdiction and investor category.

  • ONDO is a governance token; the materials reviewed do not describe direct income distributions to holders.

Rumors and unconfirmed claims:

  • The SEC investigation concluded in November 2025. Sufficient evidence has not been found.

  • SEC approval of the ONDO token or all products. Filing a request is not the same as receiving approval.

  • “Second place behind Securitize.” This requires a comprehensive table covering the same asset category on the same date.

  • “All income goes to Ondo Finance Inc.” Without examining the legal entities and cash flows, this claim is too categorical.

  • A spot ETF/ETP for ONDO. None was found in the sources reviewed.

Strengths and weaknesses

Pros:

  1. A presence in the large RWA sector, with products already in operation.

  2. Exposure to Treasuries and tokenized stocks/ETFs, meaning demand is not limited to “within crypto.”

  3. A hard cap of 10 billion and no planned inflation.

  4. The governance function is set out in the documentation.

  5. A substantial portion of the tokens is already in circulation, making supply dynamics measurable.

Cons:

  1. ONDO is not required to access the main products.

  2. No confirmed transfer of income to holders.

  3. No systematic burn mechanism.

  4. An unlock of approximately 1.71 billion ONDO is ahead in January, with further milestones through 2029.

  5. Asset metrics (TVL, AUM, tokenized assets) cannot be compared without clarifying the methodology.

  6. Regulatory documents are easy to interpret more broadly than their actual wording supports.
