Zhejiang has announced the first batch of 26 pilot mixed-use innovation communities, which will turn old industrial sites and vacant commercial buildings into AI startup communities.
According to a Sina Social Hot Topics report on October 26, Alibaba Community, for example, is opening up nearly 80,000 square meters of gardens and 27,500 square meters of dining space, and has also coordinated more than 3,000 units of subsidized housing.
They say this is meant to lower costs for AI startups, but all they’ve done is repackage old industrial parks and add some greenery and amenities. The concept sounds impressive, but it remains to be seen how much real money it will actually save entrepreneurs. This lousy promise sounds like a brush-off—let’s hope the whole thing doesn’t turn out to be more hype than substance.
