The founder of SemiAnalysis says that, apart from memory, the semiconductor industry’s biggest bottleneck is substrates. Investment is severely lacking not only in substrates themselves, but also in PCB materials. Japanese manufacturers of these materials are too conservative and unwilling to expand capacity, which could disrupt the entire supply chain—from accelerators to CPUs—due to substrate shortages over the next two years. This may be the industry’s biggest choke point.
