BTC fell just 0.37% in a day, yet the top two gainers both rose nearly 10%—one on the back of “catching scammers,” the other on hype from a call to buy.

$BMT rose 10.78% today, with a current price of $0.02395 (Binance spot, as of 18:30) and 24-hour trading volume of 18.24 million. The catalyst was the day’s news: Bubblemaps publicly accused Pump.fun influencer “Ethan” of orchestrating a $125,000 scam (reported by crypto.news on October 22). It rose on heavy volume, but it’s already up over 60% in the past five days, so today’s move looks like sentiment-driven chasing.

$PEPE rose 9.98%, with a current price of $0.00000496 and 24-hour trading volume of 60.35 million—the biggest volume surge. I haven’t seen any clear positive news; media coverage mostly points to rotation within the memecoin sector, combined with the buzz around James Wynn’s 40x prediction. It was still down 5% the day before, so today’s move is a V-shaped rebound on heavy volume.

$ALT fell 14.49%, with a current price of $0.00767 and 24-hour trading volume of 12.95 million. I haven’t seen any clear news about this token: its decline was 1.3 times the size of the top gainer’s rise, while its volume was only a fraction of that—an on-balance decline on falling volume.

Both gainers saw volume surge, while the decliner saw volume contract. Sentiment is concentrated in small caps, and the three major coins closed slightly lower. My view is that prices will most likely remain weak and continue probing lower from tonight into tomorrow. The reasons are that the major coins closed lower on declining volume, and momentum hasn’t returned to the broader market. If BTC gets back above 82,000 tomorrow during the day on rising volume, then I’ll be wrong.
