Is Starknet looking to “break away” from Ethereum? The community vote is in: 93.52% of voting power supports exploring turning Starknet into an independent, quantum-resistant L1.

The Snapshot vote ran for 7 days and ended on 10/22, with 3,236 votes and around 489 million $STRK participating. It was the highest-participation vote in Starknet governance history; around 4.6% voted against and about 1.9% abstained.

Note that this was a non-binding vote that only authorized “research”; it does not amount to approval of a migration. For now, Starknet remains an L2 of $ETH . Actually moving to L1 would require another formal vote.

The reasoning: Starknet aims to achieve full quantum resistance by 2027, while Ethereum’s target is 2029. As an L2, its cross-chain bridge and data availability are tied to Ethereum’s timeline.

The team says STRK will remain the native token, with no new token issued, and the bridge from Ethereum to Starknet will remain open. StarkWare plans to release a white paper draft in November. $STRK is currently trading at around $0.0527, down 1.6% in 24 hours.
