Samsung Electronics has signed a $16.5 billion chip supply contract with Tesla. Elon Musk confirmed on X that Tesla is the customer, and Samsung said the contract runs from July 2025 into late 2025. The chips are for Tesla’s next-generation AI hardware, and they’ll be made at Samsung’s new Texas fab.
The deal matters for Samsung, which had been struggling to win big foundry customers and was losing money on contract manufacturing. Its shares rose sharply on the news, and the Texas plant gets its first major anchor client.
For the AI supply chain, it’s another sign that automakers and chipmakers are locking in long-term capacity. Do you think Samsung can close the gap with TSMC from here? 👇
