The move to bring U.S. stocks onchain took a step forward today, and I’m actually feeling more cautious.
The SEC just published a list:
Three companies have notified it that they plan to operate tokenized securities trading venues, or TSVs, under the innovation exemption dated September 17.
All three are major players:
TSV LLC, planning to operate on Canton Network, filed on September 23
OKXICE, a joint venture between OKX and ICE, planning to use X Layer, filed on October 4
Kephas, a U.S. subsidiary of Perpetuals.com, filed on October 14
It sounds exciting, but the SEC was very clear:
Being on the list doesn’t mean a company meets the exemption’s requirements, let alone that it’s been approved.
Before officially operating, they must also publish a public notice at least 30 days in advance, laying out the rules.
What matters to me isn’t who moves fastest.
The real hurdles for tokenized U.S. stocks have never been about putting stocks on a blockchain.
It’s whether rights, settlement, and issuer recognition can all be brought into alignment.
The exemption provides a testing ground, not a get-out-of-jail-free card. 😅
What to watch next is simple:
See who publishes the 30-day notice first, and which stocks make the initial lineup.
Until a notice is published, they’re all still just waiting in line.
Who do you think tokenized U.S. stocks will take business from first: brokerages or exchanges?
