Justin Sun said he is “bearish on Bitcoin.”

The founder of TRON is bearish on BTC—which might normally be dismissed as self-serving talk, but what stands out is that his reasons are AI and quantum computers 😳

Summing up Justin Sun’s remarks at TOKEN2049 Singapore:

“Once quantum computers become practical, Bitcoin’s cryptography (ECDSA) could theoretically be broken.

Bitcoin doesn’t have a clear upgrade path like Ethereum does.

As someone seriously tracking the evolution of AI and quantum technology, I have concerns about Bitcoin's long-term security”

That's the gist.

It's easy to dismiss this as self-serving talk.

But these are the technical facts:

  • NISC finalized its post-quantum cryptography standards in 2024

  • The U.S. government has already set a timeline for transitioning federal systems

  • The Bitcoin community is also discussing “quantum-resistant implementation in tapscript,” but consensus is still a long way off

TRON has announced that it has already implemented ML-DSA-44 and FN-DSA-512 on the Nile testnet and is ready to deploy them on mainnet.

No one knows when “Q-Day” will arrive.

Some predict 2030, while others say 2040 or later.

But it's also true that waiting until it arrives to respond might be too late. Whether preparations are underway now could make a big difference when we look back 10 years from now.

Rather than whether Justin Sun's remarks are self-serving,

“Which chains are taking quantum resistance seriously?”

I think that question matters more to long-term investors.
