Today, it was officially welcomed into the Wall Street fold. CME announced that the first block trades in Bitcoin Cash ($BCH ) and Uniswap futures were completed on October 20, with market makers FalconX and GSR crossing trades. UNI has thus become the first DeFi protocol token to list on CME.
Standard contracts start at 10,000 UNI, with micro contracts for 1,000 UNI. They are cash-settled, with no physical delivery. Until now, DeFi tokens could only run wild on offshore perpetual exchanges. Now institutions can short and hedge them directly through a regulated clearinghouse—without even touching the blockchain.
CME crypto futures and options have averaged 242,000 contracts a day this year, with a notional value of $7.9 billion, and open interest stands at 240,000 contracts ($14.3 billion). With this door now open, established DeFi tokens like AAVE, MKR, and LDO are all waiting in line. DeFi’s move onto Wall Street—and the step toward regulatory compliance—is more tangible than any hype.
