$DOGE Tonight, the Dogecoin ecosystem gained a team focused specifically on building products: the Dogecoin Foundation and the MyDoge team announced that they are joining forces to form Dogecoin Labs, bringing wallets, the application layer, and merchant payments under one company.

Dogecoin is one of the oldest meme coins, with a large community and plenty of liquidity. But the blockchain itself is fairly bare-bones, and for years it has mainly been used for transfers and tipping.

Three projects are coming together: the MyDoge wallet; DogeOS, which lets developers build apps on Dogecoin using familiar Ethereum tools; and Such App, which lets merchants issue invoices and accept DOGE payments by scanning a QR code in person. The CEO is Jordan Jefferson, founder of MyDoge and DogeOS.

They have also clarified how responsibilities will be divided. The Foundation says it will continue to oversee open-source development, the community, and trademarks, while Labs will focus on products and business, including payments, e-commerce, DeFi, and gaming. The Foundation and House of Doge are also contributing related intellectual property and development staff.

Why it’s worth watching: The announcement acknowledges that while Dogecoin has many holders, there are still few products and merchants built specifically for it. The strategy is to use the wallet as the entry point. The team says MyDoge has amassed more than 500,000 users without spending money on user acquisition, and apps built by developers on DogeOS can be put directly in front of them.

One thing to keep in mind: DogeOS is still on a public testnet, and Such App is also still in beta. The announcement says merchant payments will be integrated with DogeOS later. For now, the focus is on bringing people and teams together; the actual products will roll out over time.
