$GTC settles the question at 1 a.m.: 0.314 lost on the close, the whole breakout sequence invalidated—and the final level is gone too

Let’s start with the hard numbers: the 1-hour candle closing at 00:00 on October 21 settled at 0.30954, officially below 0.314. At 01:00, price probed down to 0.303; spot was around 0.306 when checked, down about 15.7% over 24 hours and roughly 20% from the 0.3838 high. Spot 24-hour trading volume was about 17.24 million USDT.

Let’s retrace the sequence. In yesterday’s early-morning breakout post, $GTC opened at 0.249, then closed above 0.2816, 0.314, and 0.338, one level at a time. The rules laid out then were clear: a close back below 0.338 would weaken the breakout; a close below 0.314 would invalidate the next level that had held. During the day, it first closed back below 0.338 several times, so the breakout had already weakened. The 23:00 close was 0.31405, just about 0.02% above 0.314—a narrow escape right on the line. But the 00:00 candle failed to hold.

Why the drop? I haven’t found any clear new negative catalyst this time. The catalysts are all old: Upbit’s October 12 listing and Techne’s early-October reboot plan are not new developments today. This move looks more like momentum fading after a rally. The price and volume action didn’t show panic selling on a surge in volume; buyers simply pulled back level by level, and each close lost another level. And given its history of thin liquidity—it surged to 0.393 on October 12, then fell back to 0.225 the next day—this pace of retreat isn’t surprising.

My view: the holding structure is now invalidated; treat the short-term move as a pullback. The next level to watch is 0.2816, the first level in this sequence that price had held above. If that breaks on a close, only the 0.249 opening level remains below. On the other hand, a 1-hour close back above 0.314 would soften this invalidation; only a close back above 0.338 would count as a recovery. I’m not assuming that happens for now.

Risk warning: GTC is thinly traded and volatile. It is not listed on OKX, and I couldn’t find funding-rate or open-interest data, so it’s hard to gauge positioning. Liquidity is even thinner in the early morning, and wicks can be unpredictable. Don’t chase shorts or sell into a drop here, and don’t rush to catch a falling knife.

Pick one: do you think 0.2816 will hold, or not?
