🇨🇭 Switzerland Didn't Just Approve Bitcoin. It Approved a Wrapper.
On Oct 20, FINMA approved Switzerland's first retail ETF that holds Bitcoin directly.
What's confirmed:
• Classified as an "other fund for alternative investments" under Swiss law
• Diversification rules waived, citing Bitcoin's long trading history and high volume
• FINMA still warns Bitcoin remains highly risky, even inside an ETF
• Other providers have applied or announced plans
The real shift: Swiss investors could already buy Bitcoin ETPs on SIX for years. Those are exchange-traded products without fund status. This is the first time Bitcoin sits inside the public fund framework.
What we don't know yet: the issuer (FINMA didn't name it), fees, custody setup, listing date.
My read: access isn't new, structure is. Approval opens a door, but only net inflows after launch will show whether investors walk through it.
Would you hold Bitcoin through an ETF or in your own wallet? 👇
Not financial advice.
