🏠 On-chain RWA reaches $39.26 billion: tokenized assets are starting to "put to work"

Until recently, conversations about RWA mostly stopped at "putting assets on-chain." Now the question is: once they’re on-chain, what can they actually do?

The latest data offers some answers:

🔹 On-chain real-world assets (RWA) total around $39.26 billion, with about 5.3 million holder addresses
🔹 Tokenized stocks have surged 390% this year, surpassing $3 billion
🔹 Around $1.61 billion in tokenized credit has entered DeFi lending
🔹 Bonds still make up the largest share

One real-world example: RNT Lend, built on Aave, lets users borrow stablecoins against tokenized real estate. It advertises annualized yields of up to 12%. The market is currently worth around $30.5 million, with about $21.5 million in TVL.

Put simply, once real estate, stocks, and bonds are on-chain, you can unlock liquidity without selling them. That’s what makes RWA genuinely interesting.

But don’t forget the other side of the story: liquidity is still fragmented and nowhere near the level of traditional markets. If collateral needs to be liquidated, will there be enough buyers to absorb it? That’s a real concern.

My take: $39.2 billion is just a drop in the ocean compared with traditional finance, but being "usable as collateral and available for borrowing" matters far more than simply "being on-chain." The next thing to watch isn’t the size of the market, but whether liquidation mechanisms can withstand a major market swing.

Would you tokenize your own real estate or stocks and use them as collateral to borrow U? Or do you think putting off-chain assets on-chain carries too much risk? Share your thoughts in the comments 👇
