🇺🇸 The FBI has just dismantled more than 40 “laptop farms” used by North Korean agents to infiltrate American companies and fund Kim Jong-un’s regime.
During “Operation Lonestar Roundup,” conducted in Texas from September 21 to 25 and made public on October 13, federal agents searched more than 40 homes and seized 187 computers and remote-control devices.
These facilities enabled North Korean IT workers to pose as American developers to secure remote jobs.
The computers provided by the companies remained physically in the United States, while the fake employees controlled them from abroad using remote-access software, VPNs, and stolen identities.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, more than 70 companies were affected, and approximately $3 million in salaries is believed to have been generated for the benefit of networks linked to Pyongyang.
In total, 14 people were indicted and two suspects were arrested as part of coordinated law enforcement actions.
