Did you know that a small price move against your position can eat up a large portion of its margin if you use high leverage? ⚠️

🎯 Here are 4 rules you shouldn’t ignore:

🔹 1️⃣ Don’t be fooled by the small amount of capital: using 10x leverage means your market exposure could be up to 10 times your margin—it doesn’t mean the risk is lower.

🔹 2️⃣ Understand the impact of price movements: with 10x leverage, a 2% move against you equates to a loss of about 20% of the initial margin used, before fees and funding, if the position size remains constant.

🔹 3️⃣ Don’t use the maximum leverage available: Choose a position size that matches your ability to tolerate losses, and don’t let liquidation be your way out of a trade.

🔹 4️⃣ Set your stop-loss in advance: Leverage cannot make up for weak analysis, and a stop-loss itself does not guarantee execution at the specified price during sharp volatility.

📊 An example with numbers:

If you use $20 of margin with 5x leverage, your notional position size is $100.

If the price moves 2% against you, your loss could be around $2, or 10% of your margin, before fees and funding, assuming the position size remains constant.

💡 The golden rule:
Don’t just ask: How much can I make with leverage? First ask: How much will I lose if the market moves against my expectations?

🧠 Remember: Staying in the market is more important than making a quick profit and then losing your capital.

👇 A question for traders:

If you had to choose between 2x and 20x leverage, which would you prefer to manage your risk—and why?

Share your thoughts; your answer might help another trader avoid a loss that could have been prevented. 📈
