TradFi saw $27.68 million in liquidations over the past 24 hours, with shorts taking about $4 million more pain. Looking at stocks, commodities, and indices together, short positions suffered more than longs, and traders betting on a one-way decline were the first to be wiped out.

Of the total, $11.84 million came from long liquidations and $15.84 million from short liquidations, with shorts accounting for 57.2%. The largest single liquidation was a crude oil (CL) short, at nearly $998,000; a KORU short was about $476,000, and an EWY short about $367,000. The biggest liquidations were no small trial positions.

Stock liquidations totaled about $18.89 million, accounting for 68.3% of the TradFi total and making stocks the main battleground. Commodities came to about $4.847 million, and indices about $1.438 million. This distribution shows that today’s pressure was concentrated in leveraged stock positions, rather than being driven by an isolated move in a single commodity.

If you're chasing shorts in contracts related to U.S. stocks, first check whether short positions have already been heavily liquidated. A high liquidation volume doesn't mean the market will reverse immediately, but there's less room for error if you keep adding leverage. Which do you think will get liquidated first in the next wave: longs, or are the shorts not done yet?
