BlockBeats News, October 19: South Korea’s National Pension Service (NPS), the country’s major pension fund, suffered a loss of 182 trillion won (about $137 billion) as shares in companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix fell.

According to financial data provider FnGuide, as of October 15, the NPS held stakes of 5% or more in 287 listed companies. The estimated value of those holdings fell from 515.93 trillion won at the end of June to 333.53 trillion won.

This marks the fund’s first quarterly decline since the fourth quarter of 2024. For the NPS, which posted its highest-ever return in the first half of the year, this represents a sharp reversal.
