While the market is still focused on whether Bitcoin can break through key resistance levels, Grayscale has already turned its attention to DeFi, AI, and on-chain data.
On October 15, Grayscale, a globally renowned digital asset manager, announced a partnership with investment platform Republic to make three crypto investment products available to eligible investors, with a minimum investment of $2,500.
What makes this partnership noteworthy is not only the lower investment threshold, but, more importantly, the three areas Grayscale has chosen to focus on.
1. What exactly do the three funds invest in?
First: DeFi Decentralized Finance Fund
Six tokens are involved:
UNI, AAVE, ONDO, ENA, CRV, and LDO.
These projects span decentralized trading, lending, tokenization of real-world assets, stablecoins, and on-chain liquidity.
By grouping them together, Grayscale is signaling that its investment thesis is no longer focused on betting on a single token, but on the growth of the entire on-chain financial ecosystem.
Second: Decentralized AI Fund
Includes:
NEAR, TAO, RENDER, and FIL.
These four projects cover areas including blockchain infrastructure, decentralized AI model networks, distributed computing, and storage.
AI has become a core theme in global technology investment, but at present, a large share of computing resources is concentrated in the hands of a small number of tech giants.
Decentralized AI aims to offer an alternative model, allowing computing, storage, and some AI services to work together through open networks.
Whether this sector can truly become commercially viable remains to be seen, but Grayscale’s decision to invest in it shows that it has become one of the areas drawing institutional attention.
Third: Data Network Trust
This product primarily provides exposure to the DATA token, with a focus on verifying the sources of AI training data, authorization, and distributing returns to data contributors.
Compared with the first two funds, it is more concentrated in a single asset, making its risk more concentrated as well.
II. Why Is This Partnership Worth Watching?
In the past, institutional adoption narratives in the crypto market have mainly revolved around BTC, ETH, and ETFs.
But by bringing DeFi, AI, and data networks together, Grayscale is sending a signal worth examining:
Institutionally managed crypto investment products are expanding beyond a single mainstream asset into more specialized blockchain application areas.
DeFi and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) are particularly notable. If more financial activity moves onto the blockchain in the future, related protocols could see greater demand for their services.
Meanwhile, the convergence of AI and blockchain could become another long-term investment theme.
However, the launch of a product does not mean the related tokens will necessarily rise, nor does it mean that a large influx of new institutional capital has already begun.
III. Can You Really Invest with Just $2,500? Is There No Barrier to Entry?
It’s important to note that these three products are private investment vehicles, not ETFs available to all retail investors.
U.S. investors must still meet the accredited investor requirements.
Private funds also come with resale restrictions, limited liquidity, management fees, and the risk of losing principal.
So, $2,500 is simply the minimum investment amount; it doesn’t mean anyone can buy in.
IV. My Take: What Matters Most Is Where the Capital Flows
In my view, the most important thing about this partnership is not how much it might boost altcoins in the short term, but that it shows the market how crypto industry products are evolving.
BTC represents the core allocation in digital assets, DeFi represents on-chain finance, while decentralized AI and data networks represent potential new application scenarios.
But what truly determines these tokens’ long-term value is still protocol revenue, user growth, their ability to capture value for token holders, and actual capital inflows.
If the assets under management of the related funds continue to grow, it would indicate that these investment themes are gaining broader recognition from investors.
If partnerships are merely announced without a noticeable increase in capital, short-term market movements may still be driven more by sentiment.
Grayscale has chosen new investment directions, but ultimately, the market will decide with real money which ones will survive.
Next, I’ll focus on trading volume, capital flows, and relative strength for projects such as UNI, AAVE, ONDO, TAO, and RENDER, rather than chasing rallies based solely on their inclusion in Grayscale’s lineup.
The next opportunity in the crypto market may not simply be BTC rising, but which projects can truly turn blockchain technology into sustainable revenue.
Which do you think has greater potential: a DeFi resurgence or decentralized AI becoming the next major market theme?
