Grayscale’s three funds have a minimum investment of just $2,500. My first reaction was that they’d lowered the bar pretty dramatically.
#Grayscale and Republic launch three crypto funds
I looked through the SEC filings: for the DeFi and AI funds, the minimum subscription listed earlier this year was still $50,000. On Republic, it’s been slashed to $2,500.
That said, U.S. investors first have to prove they’re accredited investors, with a net worth of at least $1 million. Investors outside the U.S. have to go through a different channel.
More importantly, the shares can’t be redeemed, and transfers are restricted, so once your money’s in, it’s basically locked up.
The DeFi fund holds six tokens, including UNI, AAVE, and ONDO. The AI fund holds NEAR, TAO, RENDER, and FIL—all of which you can buy directly on spot markets.
If I really wanted this portfolio, I’d rather put it together myself in the same proportions. Then I could sell whenever I wanted.
