0.249 resisted five closes—this time, $GTC closed above it on an hourly candle
Pick a side first: does it hold 0.249 and open the way toward the October 12 closing price of 0.2816, or is it the same old script—closing back below 0.249 for a sixth failed breakout? I’m leaning toward the former, but I’m only counting the close, not an intraday spike.
The 0.249 level was the intraday high on October 5. From 14:00 to 17:00 on October 17, four 1-hour candles closed at 0.2446, 0.2474, 0.2456, and 0.2480—all four tested the level and closed below it. Today at 09:00, another candle closed at 0.2484, just 0.0006 short. After five closes right around the same level, this time is different.
The 10:00 candle changed the script: volume was about 918,000 USDT, 1.7 times the roughly 540,000 at 09:00. It touched 0.2682 intraday and closed at 0.2623—the first close above 0.249, and not just barely, but about 5% higher. Before publication, spot was around 0.259, up about 29.6% over 24 hours, with roughly 12.23 million USDT in 24-hour spot volume. The 11:00 candle’s intraday low was 0.2566, still above 0.249.
Why the rally? I couldn’t find a new catalyst today. What I could find was old news: Upbit listed KRW/USDT on October 12, and Techne’s restart plan came in early October. Neither is news today. GTC is not listed on OKX, and I couldn’t find reliable figures for funding rates or open interest, so leverage positioning can’t be verified. For now, I’d treat this as a spot-volume breakout and not make up a story around it.
My take: the breakout is confirmed, and the next hurdle is 0.2816. Only a sustained close above that level would make me consider further upside. But the history is right there: on October 12, it spiked above 0.393 intraday, then fell back to around 0.225 the next day. Liquidity is thin, so vertical rallies can retrace just as quickly. The invalidation level is fixed: if a 1-hour candle closes back below 0.249, consider this breakout a failure. Below that, 0.208 is the major invalidation level for the whole move; a close below it would mean treating this as a false breakout. The price is already elevated, so weigh the risks yourself before chasing. This is not investment advice.
Which side are you on: does it hold 0.249 and open toward 0.2816, or does it close back below again, like before?
