ZEC has fallen all the way to 1126, down 30% in a month. A date is coming up the day after tomorrow that could determine whether it can turn things around.

On October 20, developers will decide on the mainnet activation height for the NU7 upgrade, targeting a November 5 mainnet launch.

This is no minor tune-up: block times will drop from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, essentially giving the engine a complete overhaul. 60% of every transaction fee will go into a reserve pool, so the network can eventually sustain itself through fees instead of relying solely on inflation.

There’s also an on-chain signal: coins in the shielded pool now account for 29% of the total supply, suggesting that people are actually using the privacy features—not just speculating on the idea.

But the bad news hasn’t stopped. Grayscale’s ZCSH fund saw continued net outflows in October, miners are selling too, and trading volume hasn’t dried up as the price has fallen from its highs.

Put simply, the upgrade is good news, but the meeting on the 20th needs to go smoothly, and the November 5 mainnet launch must stay on schedule for the positive news to materialize.
