According to IT Home on October 16, South Korean SSD controller company FADU unveiled its first FS-SSD (File Semantic SSD) at the 2026 OCP Global Summit.

Previously, when an accelerator read a file, the CPU and operating system had to relay the request, driving latency and workload through the roof. Now, with file-processing firmware built into the SSD, it can communicate directly with the accelerator, bypassing the CPU, memory, and software layers entirely.

Adding file-management capabilities to an SSD and bypassing the CPU really does eliminate all the detours in data transfer.
