$TIA The next major upgrade to the mainnet has passed the validator voting threshold. Based on the current block production rate, the switch is expected to happen next Tuesday, Beijing time. Upbit has also announced that it will suspend TIA deposits and withdrawals starting that morning.

TIA is Celestia’s token. Other chains pay TIA to upload and store transaction data and prove that the data is publicly available. Validators also stake TIA to help maintain the network.

The star of this upgrade is Fibre. Previously seen only on testnets and in stress tests, it is now officially coming to mainnet. Validators will store and serve data shards on their own servers, with each validator’s storage allocation based on how much they have staked.

On-chain signal records show that voting power in support has exceeded five-sixths. Once the threshold is reached, a countdown begins based on a fixed number of blocks, making it possible to calculate when the upgrade will take effect.

This upgrade is not backward-compatible, so nodes that haven’t updated to the new version won’t be able to keep up with the upgraded chain. The team says Fibre’s initial mainnet capacity will be sized to meet early demand and expanded as usage grows.
