The fake breakout lasted just four hours: $STRK reclaimed the level late at night, with a volume-fueled move making a new high for the day at 23:00

First, I’ll own it: tonight’s price action invalidated my 19:45 post, “Fake Breakout Confirmed.” When a call is wrong, I’ll admit it—no doubling down.

Here are the numbers (checked again at 23:42 Beijing time): STRK spot is at 0.0920, up 17.2% over 24 hours, with a 0.21% spread between Binance spot and OKX perpetuals. The 1-hour candle that closed at 22:00 finished at 0.0834, back above the 0.0806 invalidation level set in my previous post. At 23:00, a surge in volume sent the price to 0.0937, above the daytime high of 0.0898 and the October 13 high of 0.0934. Hourly volume was among the day’s highest, and 24-hour spot trading volume was about 43.6 million USDT.

Why the sharp reversal tonight? Two reasons. First, $BTC led the way: after dipping to 79,676 at 21:55, it reclaimed 82,000 late at night (currently around 82,511), bringing broad-market beta back. Second, STRK’s own catalyst only officially materialized today: the non-binding community vote on an independent quantum-resistant L1 opened today (October 15) and will run for 7 days, through October 22. In early October, it was only being floated; today is the first day of voting. Add to that the fact that today’s unlock of about 127 million tokens is now behind us: the bearish event has passed, and tokens may be changing hands more freely. In terms of positioning, OKX perpetual funding is around -0.0063% and open interest is about $12.33 million. Longs aren’t crowded, funding is still slightly negative, and some fuel for a short squeeze remains.

My take: reclaiming 0.0806 and breaking to a new high on rising volume have turned the short-term structure bullish again. But dropping 12% and then rallying nearly 20% in a single day is a meat grinder, not a stable trend. The invalidation levels are clear: if a 1-hour candle closes back below 0.0898, treat it as a failed breakout; if it falls below 0.0806, tonight’s entire reversal is invalidated. The next resistance zone above is around 0.108 (the area of the highs around October 11).

Risk warning: STRK’s range today exceeded 30%. The vote is only a non-binding poll and doesn’t mean it will actually migrate to an L1; it’s also unclear where the unlocked tokens will go. The biggest mistake with a sharp late-night rally is chasing it in a rush—plan your position size and stop-loss first.

Pick a side: Is this reversal the start of a new leg up, or one last bull trap? Will it hold above the new high, or get knocked back down?
