BlackRock: What’s behind the 63% increase in digital assets

BlackRock published its quarterly results on October 14. Digital assets under management rose from USD 48,839 million as of June 30 to USD 79,632 million as of September 30, 2026—an increase of approximately 63%.

The table, presented as unaudited, makes it possible to break down the components. There were USD 7,907 million in net inflows, a USD 22,889 million increase due to changes in market value, and a foreign-exchange impact of -3 million. The total increase was USD 30,793 million: close to three-quarters came from the market.

Assets under management, or AUM, measure the value of assets being managed. They can grow because funds flow in or because the value of existing positions rises. So the 63% does not mean new purchases equal to that percentage, nor does it represent the return earned by an investor.

Nor does it represent a cryptocurrency purchase for BlackRock’s corporate treasury: the report describes assets managed for clients. The date also matters: the September closing figure does not include movements later in October. The table groups digital assets together, without attributing each amount to a specific fund here.

Market snapshot: at 13:38 UTC on October 15, Binance spot showed BTC at 80,344.01 USDT (-3.21% in 24 hours) and ETH at 2,341.37 USDT (-5.82%). A quarter of net inflows can coexist with subsequent declines. The risk is treating a past balance as guaranteed future demand: valuations and flows can change.
