TSMC $TSMB Q3 revenue was NT$1,494.243 billion, up 50.9% year over year, while net profit was NT$763.064 billion, up 68.7%. 2nm accounted for 8% of wafer revenue.

Profit growth was even stronger. Operating profit was NT$876.445 billion, up 75.0%—faster than revenue. Gross margin was 66.4%, operating margin 58.7%, and net margin 51.1%.

But the quarter-over-quarter figures tell a different story. Revenue rose 17.6%, while net profit increased just 8.0%.

Process technology was a new variable this quarter: 2nm accounted for 8%, 3nm 33%, 5nm 28%, and 7nm 10%, with 7nm and more advanced processes totaling 79%. The basis needs to be clear: these figures represent shares of wafer revenue, not total group revenue.

Q4 guidance is US$52.3 billion to US$54.3 billion, with the entire range above this quarter’s revenue. The operating margin guidance is 56.5% to 58.5%, with the lower end below this quarter’s 58.7%. The real test is the ramp-up: can 2nm maintain profitability at a larger revenue scale?

This is not investment advice.
