What are blobs, and why do they lower Layer 2 fees? Don’t panic—the class rep has the answer:
When the Dencun upgrade launched, each block had a target of 3 blobs and a maximum of 6. The Pectra upgrade in May 2025 raised that to a target of 6 and a maximum of 9.
Layer 2 networks only need transaction data to be available for anyone to download during the period when results need to be verified; the mainnet doesn’t need to store this data permanently.
Learning this won’t make me instantly stronger, but it can help me avoid a rookie mistake.
