#btc跌破8.1万美元
Whales had already loaded up on 3.03 million BTC before the CPI announcement. Then the data came out, and the price plunged straight below their cost basis 🦖

US September CPI came in at 3.7% year over year, above the 3.6% forecast. Core CPI was 2.6%, also higher than the expected 2.5%. Within minutes of the release, Bitcoin started sliding. It fell 3.3% in 24 hours to $80,979.

Here’s the really painful part: around $81,000 is the average cost basis of US spot ETFs’ Bitcoin purchases. According to Glassnode, the current price has already dropped below it. On the same day, these ETFs also saw net outflows of $261.5 million, according to SoSoValue.

The leverage side got hit even harder. Nearly $1 billion in positions were liquidated across the market in the past 24 hours, 91.6% of them longs. Long traders got wiped out the most thoroughly 💥

Here’s the contrast: CryptoQuant data shows that in the weeks before the report, whales had already shifted from distributing to accumulating. Holdings outside exchanges and mining pools surged to 3.03 million BTC, the highest level since November 2025. Most of their cost basis sits between $80,000 and $100,000 🐋

Sentiment is split, too. Among retail traders, Santiment found that the ratio of bullish to bearish comments on October 13 was just 0.82. Repeated failures to break through $87,000 have steadily undermined confidence. Among analysts, however, CryptoQuant’s Consensus Index stood at 49.2 on October 14, with 84% of 164 analysts bullish.

Glassnode poured cold water on the rally, saying there wasn’t much new demand behind the price move. Buyers who entered the market over the past two years have cost bases between $88,000 and $100,000, and those two levels have pushed the price back down twice this year. The $88,000 level is also the cost basis for buyers who entered 6–12 months ago and a liquidation zone for short positions.

In plain English, the key level to watch now isn’t simply whether the price goes up or down—it’s $80,000. That’s where the largest buy order sits on the spot order book, and it’s also the 365-day moving average. If the price breaks below $80,000, longs below that level may be forced to cut their positions, exposing the $78,000 Realized Price. On the other hand, a daily close holding above $88,000, together with a return to net ETF inflows, would show that the bulls had truly absorbed the selling pressure 📈

Do you think the whales were positioning early this time, or are they about to start selling? Let’s talk in the comments.
