It’s been less than a day since the CPI number came out, and BTC dipped as low as 80,493 today—just $500 shy of 80K. Right now it’s hovering around 80.8K, grinding along. It’s fallen from 84K to 80.8K, while oil is still at $94 and Treasury yields are still around 5.3%. Nothing’s eased. Last night I said to watch for 80K on the downside, and today it’s reached the doorstep.
But there’s one thing I need to make clear. What I said last night was that I’d buy if it plunged through 80K—not that I’d buy just because it got near 80K. There’s a $500 difference, and it’s not about the price; it’s about the move. The significance of a round-number level is the moment it gets pierced and then reclaimed—that shows there are buyers stepping in below. Right now, it’s slowly edging down and grinding along that line. That’s grinding, not a wick. They’re two different things.
There were $480 million in liquidations in one hour today, of which $460 million were longs. Most of those people probably saw 80K getting close and jumped in early to buy the dip, only to get caught in midair.
Oil has fallen from $106 to $104 over the past couple of days. That’s a tiny bit of relief, but nowhere near enough; a move of that size doesn’t change much.
If it really plunges below 80K, I’ll buy. At this level, I’m not doing anything. It’ll only count as a recovery once it gets back above 82K. If it falls further, we’ll have to look for another level.
