The good news is out, but don’t celebrate just yet—I’ve done the math on this “good news” for you.

BTC, ETH, and SOL all took a hit today. The only one in the top 100 that managed to stand out was oracle token $PYTH , up about 5% in 24 hours and briefly reaching around $0.086 intraday.

What’s driving it is DAO proposal OP-PIP-136, passed last week on October 8. It’s called the “100% Rule”: from now on, Pyth DAO will use all of its share of monthly product revenue (about 60% of total revenue) to buy back $PYTH on the open market and add it to the reserve treasury—without needing a separate vote each time.

The sentiment: this is the first time an oracle has directly tied “revenue to token price.” The narrative is positive, and its products do have paying customers—Q3 annualized revenue was $11.49 million, up 86.5% quarter over quarter, with 276 paying accounts.

But let’s do the math carefully. After the revenue split, the DAO’s monthly buyback budget is about $570,000, enough to buy roughly 6.8 million tokens at current prices—10 times August’s 670,000. That sounds like a lot, but it’s still less than 1% of the $PYTH in daily trading volume. And the repurchased tokens go into the reserve treasury to sit there; they aren’t burned. Selling pressure is only being temporarily taken off the market, not eliminated.

The good news is real, but the scale is small. The price has already moved up in anticipation. Keep sentiment and the math separate—don’t mistake a buyback story for a money-printing machine.

I’ll keep tracking buyback data like this, so follow me to stay in the loop. Would you buy into this “revenue-funded buyback” narrative?
