Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank, gets central bank approval: starting December 1, users can trade $BTC , $ETH , and $USDT in its own app.

The backdrop is the digital currency law that took effect in September—controlled access, not a full opening-up; retail limits and knowledge tests are still in place. Once the gateway to a bank with around 110 million users opens, the traffic narrative will look very different.

During my years studying compliance in Singapore, my teachers always said, “A banking license is worth more than a narrative.” This time, it’s the same story: real adoption often happens in banking apps, not in trading signal groups.

Do you think major banks entering the space is good for crypto, or does it lock innovation back inside walled gardens?
